About Inkfield Quarterly
Inkfield Quarterly is an independent journal about graphic design, illustration, printmaking and the broader culture of putting images into the world. We are interested less in trends and more in craft — the decisions, tools and traditions that separate work that merely looks finished from work that is genuinely well made.
The journal began as a set of studio notes passed between a small circle of designers and printers who were tired of design coverage that treated the field as pure spectacle. We wanted to write about the parts that rarely make the highlight reel: the negative space, the registration marks, the quality of the light, the quiet ethics of a layout. Those are the things that actually decide whether a piece works.
Our writing is led by M. Halloran, with contributions from working makers across screen printing, letterpress, illustration and gallery practice. We have no advertisers to please and no products to sell beyond the ideas themselves, which means we can be honest about what we think holds up and what does not.
If you make things, write about things, or simply care about how images are made, we are glad to have you reading. Questions, tips and disagreements are always welcome — reach us at [email protected].
